In late 1944 a failed assassination plot against Adolf Hitler saw thousands of suspects executed, among them prominent theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Today he’s considered a modern day martyr who, motivated by his Christian faith, actively opposed evil and paid for it with his life.
