They found Juanita at 20,000 feet in the Andes mountains – perfectly preserved in the ice. She was curled in a foetal position, wrapped in fine woollens of chocolate brown and cream-coloured stripes. Juanita had soft brown hair and high cheekbones. Why did this 13-year-old girl have to die on an isolated mountain top? Why had she been deliberately killed? Whether we realise it or not, Juanita’s frozen body depicts a dilemma we all face, a struggle that involves us all. It takes us into the mystery of the human heart, reaching out to God.
