The value of a pearl depends on five factors: size, shape, colour, surface, and lustre. The lustre is produced by the nacre, which is the material the pearl oyster uses to build up the pearl as it grows within the shell of the oyster. Pearls are special, and they are used in the story told by Jesus to illustrate the immense value of having Jesus in our hearts.
