In 1944, near the end of World War 2, US forces regained Guam from the Japanese invaders. Peace returned to this Pacific island paradise. But for one Japanese soldier, the war continued for another 28 years! In the remote jungle of Guam, he fashioned survival tools in his secret hideout, refusing to entertain the idea of surrender. The story of Shoichi Yokoi surprised and shocked people all round the world. In a sense, Yokoi’s experience is not unlike our own.
