A little known story of courage and heroism during World War II is that of Zoltan Kubinyi. In the dying days of the war, orders were given to exterminate the remaining Jews from the Hungarian town of Tokaj. But Kubinyi had other ideas. An unwilling army conscript and officer-in-charge of the town’s forced labour unit, he instead risked his life to save the 140 Jewish men under his charge. What motivated him?
